An Oregon bakery named Fat Cupcake is fighting back against claims of racism over one of its products.
The controversy is believed to have begun with a Yelp review posted on September 10 which states, “Very troubling. They were serving a cupcake called the ‘Mr President’ that had an Oreo cookie inside. When I tried to point out the racism implied, they claimed that ‘our current president loves Oreos.’”
The reviewer, identified as Don P., ends the post by writing, “I won't be doing business with them and please do not support racism in Portland or anywhere.”
The Oregonian reports that it contacted the bakery’s owner Anjelica Hayes who refutes the accusation, in part, by saying, “I myself am black.”
She further notes, “I just thought it was an honorary name. I thought I'd be honored if someone named a cupcake after me.”
Because of the complaints, Hayes now calls the popular item 'The Professional.'
