A Buffalo police officer recently performed the Heimlich maneuver on Bryan Ramos but then arrested him after the man coughed up a cigarette pack containing cocaine.

The Heimlich maneuver can save people from choking to death, but it also led to an arrest in Buffalo, New York.

The Buffalo News is reporting that when police officers Sean McCabe and Omar Rodriguez approached Bryan Ramos on Thursday evening, “he put a pack of cigarettes that appeared to contain drugs in his mouth.”

After a struggle, Ramos started exhibiting signs of breathing problems “so McCabe performed the Heimlich on him.”

The suspect ended up expelling the cigarette box which officers discovered had a small bag of cocaine in it.

Ramos was arrested and charged with multiple offences including criminal possession of a controlled substance; he claims he was holding the bag for his cousin.
