Lightning is certainly powerful, but one bolt that struck an Iowa golf course last week also appears to have a creative side, burning its likeness into a practice green.

Lightning is certainly powerful, but one bolt that struck an Iowa golf course last week also appears to have a creative side.
It left a self-portrait of sorts, burning a likeness of its electrified and far-reaching tendrils onto a practice green.
In the process, it melted the little aluminum cup inside a hole and possibly did an extensive damage to the irrigation system.
Rick Tegtmeier, director of grounds at Des Moines Golf and Country Club, said, “I’ve been in this business 45 years and have seen a lot of lightning strikes hit trees, but nothing ever like this."
He also noted the incident should serve as a reminder that storm alert sirens are serious, and those who hear them at golf courses should take cover.
