Learn how to make Karlyachi bhaji or Karela sabzi - a quick vegetarian Indian main course recipe from our chef Archana on Ruchkar Mejwani.

Ingredients:

250 gms Bitter Gourd (Karla)
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4 Asafoetida (Hing)
1 Onion, chopped
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1/2 tsp Sugar
3 tbsp Grated Coconut
1 tbsp Mix Masala
3 tbsp Oil
Coriander Leaves
Salt to taste
Water

Method:

- First apply salt to the chopped bitter gourd pieces and keep them aside for sometime.
- In a pan heat some oil.
- Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, onion, coriander leaves and turmeric powder. Saute everything well till the onions become soft.
- Squeeze out all the water from the chopped bitter gourd pieces and add it to the masala. Mix well.
- Add grated coconut, mix masala, sugar and salt. Mix everything well.
- Add little water and cover it with a lid to let everything cook for 10 minutes.
- Karlyachi Bhaji is ready to be served.
