JEFF BECK "EL BECKO"/"THE PUMP"

There & Back is an album by guitarist Jeff Beck, released in 1980 on Epic Records. The first three tracks of the album feature famed keyboardist Jan Hammer, while the remaining tracks feature Tony Hymas (later of Ph.D.) on keyboards. Both keyboardists contributed compositions to the album, though Hymas shared songwriting credits with drummer Simon Phillips. Mo Foster played bass guitar.

While still utilizing many fusion elements of Blow by Blow and Wired, There & Back leans more towards instrumental rock, and would be Beck's last studio album for five years.

* Both "Star Cycle" and "The Pump" are notable for being two of the songs Beck played in his set at the ARMS Charity Concert and, along with "You Never Know", remained consistent favorites in the set for more than 15 years. Guitar magazines worldwide continually quote "The Pump" as being one of the all-time great time rock instrumentals, given that no two notes are played exactly the same way throughout the track[citation needed].
* This album marks the first of several collaborations with keyboardist Tony Hymas.
* This is the last album on which Beck is thought to have used a pick[citation needed].
* "Star Cycle" was for a number of years the theme song for the music program The Tube, which featured Jools Holland and Paula Yates.
