The debate over whether transgender students should be able to use the bathrooms that match their gender identity is likely headed to the U.S. Supreme Court after a federal appeals court refused Tuesday to reconsider a three-judge panel's ruling on the matter.
A federal appeals court has denied a request from the Gloucester County School Board to review a controversial transgender bathroom case.
The case involved Gloucester High School junior Gavin Grimm, who was born female but identifies as a male.
Grimm wants to use the boys’ restroom, but the school system barred him from doing so.
This sparked a heated debate which will likely be headed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
