DUMFRIES, VIRGINIA — A Virginia schoolboy was charged with larceny for allegedly stealing a 65-cent carton of milk from the cafeteria.
Graham Park Middle School student Ryan Turk was handcuffed, suspended from school, and ordered to appear in juvenile court. But not so fast … Ryan was on the school's free lunch program, so therefore entitled to free milk, local ABC-affiliate WJLA reported.
The incident began at lunch time in the school cafeteria on May 10 when Ryan asked himself the question: "Got milk?" and realised he hadn't. So he returned to the lunch line and took a carton of milk, according to WJLA.
But this is America, where schools have cops. So when a Prince William County police officer spotted Ryan he thought: "How dairy?"
The cop — a master crime-buster if ever we saw one — accused Ryan of stealing the milk. The cop slapped some handcuffs on the young Turk, who admitted he pulled away from the officer.
"I yanked away from him [and] I told him to get off of me because he's not my Dad," Ryan told WJLA.
Ryan's mother Shamise told WJLA her son was searched for drugs before being charged by police.
The boy was charged because he tried to conceal the milk, police said, according to WJLA.
A school spokesperson told WJLA that Ryan was suspended for theft, being disrespectful and using his cell phone at school, but could appeal against the decision.
