ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY — You CAN get pregnant from having anal sex, according to a New Jersey doctor who says he has an example to prove it.
Dr. Brian Steixner, a urologist at the Jersey Urology Group in Atlantic City, told Men's Health magazine the story of a woman who became pregnant — even though her lover went in through the back door.
Steixner recalls the woman being a medical wonder of sorts. She suffered from a rare condition called, "cloaca," which is a malformation where the rectum, vagina and urethra fail to develop separately. Similar to birds, the woman's system coalesced, forming one common channel that drains through a single orifice.
While corrective surgery can usually fix the problem, Steixner's patient endured a botched operation at a younger age.
One day, the woman showed up pregnant at Steixner's office.
"After doing a whole bunch of X-rays, we determined that she got pregnant from having anal sex," the doctor told Men's Health.
Ultimately, Steixner and his team determined it wouldn't be safe for the woman to give birth anally and the baby was delivered via C-section.
So it's true, you can get pregnant by having anal sex. "They totally lied to us in 9th grade health class," Steixner said.
