GRAFING, GERMANY — German authorities said the man who stabbed four people at a train station near Munich early Tuesday did not appear to be part of an Islamic network.

According to local media, the suspect is from the western city of Hessen. He took a train to Munich on Monday morning. He then stayed there until he boarded a train to Grafing that evening and spent the night at the station.

The suspect confessed that he had taken drugs at the time of the attack. His first victim was a 56-year-old man on the train that leaves for Munich from Grafing. He allegedly shouted 'God is the Greatest' in Arabic before stabbing the man, who later died at the hospital.

He then stabbed another man on the platform and two cyclists, who were rushing to help the victims in the front yard of the station.

Police arrested the suspect outside the station shortly after the attacks. He was barefoot and had a knife in his belt.

Authorities said the suspect had given very confusing statements and he might be referred to a psychiatric institution.
