France lobbies for extension of State of Emergency through Euro 2016

The French government has requested a two-month extension of the state of emergency put into place after the deadly November 13 attacks in Paris to cover the European Championship and Tour de France.
Prime Minister Manuel Valls believes extending the SOE will "allow a better response against the terrorist threat" during the month-long Euro 2016 tournament through June-July.
There have been concerns the tournament could be targeted, especially because eight million fans are expected to visit the open-air areas.
The original SOE, which has been extended twice already, was scheduled to end May 26.
