Rescue Workers Jump Into Shallow Water to Free Orcas Trapped in Ice Floes

A small pod of four orca whales, including a young pup, became trapped in shallow water by ice floes in the Sea of Okhotsk on the shores of Russia's Sakhalin island. Separated and distressed, the orcas were powerless against their prisons of ice. Emergency respondents from EMERCOM, Russia's Ministry of Emergency situations, mounted an eight-hour rescue operation in an attempt to break the huge mammals free.
