SR - Socially Relevant Film Festival New York - 2016
SR Socially Relevant Film Festival (™) New York, a relatively new non-profit film festival, has its 3rd edition March 14-20, 2016 at the Bow Tie Cinemas in Chelsea, The School of Visual Arts MFA Social Documentary and the Center for Remembering and Sharing. Closing night awards Ceremonies take place at the Japanese Tenri Galleries in the Village. SR Film Festival presents close to 50 films from 30 countries. Opening and closing night receptions are hosted by Vella Wine Bar and Bocca East restaurants. The festival showcases socially relevant films with human interest stories as a response to the proliferation of violence and violent forms of storytelling. SR(™) believes in promoting positive social change through the powerful medium of cinema. The festival’s inaugural edition took place in March 2014 at the Quad Cinema over one week, and the second edition at Tribeca Cinemas, Maysles Cinema, and SVA MFA Social Documentary in Chelsea, as well as CUNY Graduate Center Proshansky Auditorium. During its first two years the festival showcased 108 films from 33 countries. The 3rd edition opens on the 14th of March with a panel on Adapting the Novel to the Screen at Albertine Bookstore with Panelists Robert Schenkkan, Marc Levy, Brigitte Gauthier and others.
