Driving in wintry Finland: Tampere and the Pyynikinharju ridge.

Myself driving in Tampere city and on the Pyynikinharju ridge, which is one of the world's largest moraine ridge formations if not the largest.

The ridge separates two lakes, Lake Näsijärvi and Lake Pyhäjärvi, and the city has grown on the shores of the connecting rapids which provided hydropower for the industry in the city. The ridge is now half preserved, half an interesting former worker's housing district that was long a free-for all, "build as you like" area.

I snake around the ridge and the city in light Friday afternoon traffic, negotiating a couple of old geezers with a premature death wish, and people who must update their FB profiles while driving -- in the city and out of it towards Helsinki motorway.
