French Justice Minister Christiane Taubira has resigned, according to a statement from the office of President Francois Hollande on Wednesday.
Her resignation came as Parliament prepared to consider controversial plans to strip convicted terrorists of their French nationality, which Taubira had expressed reservations about.
She will be replaced as minister by Jean-Jacques Urvoas, president of the parliamentary laws commission.
The statement from Hollande's office said that Taubira submitted her resignation Wednesday, and the President accepted it.
"They have agreed together of the need to end her function in the government, as the debate begins in Parliament on the constitutional amendment," it said.
