Pickpocket punches and kicks woman who caught him in the act

STOCKHOLM — Surveillance cameras caught a thief attacking a mother of two in a train station in Stockholm earlier this month.
Video was just released of the incident that occurred at Gamla Stan train station. Cameras caught the would-be thief noticing the open purse of an elderly woman as he approached her from behind while the pair climb the stairs.
As he goes to pickpocket the woman, a mother with her two children in tow alert the woman, foiling his plan.
"The mother who sees this screams to the old lady to watch out, and pushes the man's hand out," Stockholm City Police investigator Stefan Tellqvist told SVT.
The thief became enraged and began hitting and kicking the mother in front of her two children. Unfortunately, in that moment, the crowd had dissipated leaving no witnesses. The thief disappears from camera view.
But as the mother pulls herself and her children together, he returns to spit on her.
"It's the worst I've seen in my years as a police officer," said Tellqvist. "If it is the last thing I do, I'll catch him."
Police are keeping an eye out for the thief.
