Rob Scott - This Friction

Sunshine Enterprises are proud to present the debut album of Robb Scott, “Afro Odyssey”.
Good things need time, so it took a while since Robb´s remarkable debut single “Fallin´” (SR 029, including remixes by Domu and Champion Soul) back in 2003. But now the album is ready, and waiting was worth it. Robb already came a mighty long way, with a musical career spanning 18 years, starting with the exploration of the early live jazz music scene in London, organising and promoting various club nights as well as writing songs and playing live. Relocating to NYC in the mid 90s, he continued playing gigs and producing music. After being introduced to Deephouse and Broken Beat, his musical direction took a sharp turn. Inspired by that sound, he concentrated on writing music from a more rhythmic standpoint, incorporating broken beats, jazz, funk and afro Cuban rhythms. And that’s exactly what you will find on his “Afro Odyssey” epos.

The album is mostly produced and sung by Robb himself, he works also with a lot of great musicians like Josh Roseman, Jay Rodriguez or Jonathan Maron, as well as with Roy Ayers´ rhythm section to create a timeless album. Robb’s obsession are 12” from late 70´s and early 80´s which supplied the listener with solos and instrumental fade outs.

Although love is a main theme, Robb Scott´s music is also strongly politically and deals with current and past politics. He states out some clear points on the album.
