Environmental inequality persists in South Africa

In South Africa, inequalities remain despite the end of apartheid, including on the environmental front. The poorest populations live in the most polluted areas and things are moving slowly. Coal-fired power plants continue to spew out noxious fumes to produce electricity, which in turn fuels the rapid growth of one of Africa’s most vigorous economies. Our correspondents report.
