MIAMI — Bloody elevator doors greeted a family on a Carnival Christmas cruise after an electrician was killed while working on the elevator, Fox 4 reported.
What started as a nice Christmas getaway on the Carnival Ecstasy for Matt Davis and his family turned into something out of a horror movie when Davis and his wife went to dinner on the 10th floor of the luxury cruise ship and were greeted by an elevator door covered in blood.
Davis recorded the scene on his cell phone. He said that someone ran out of the elevator through the bloodbath, while cruise employees tried to usher passengers away.
The elevator was cordoned off, and Carnival offered to pay for three counseling sessions for the family after the traumatic experience.
According to a Carnival spokesperson's email to Miami's Fox 4, the victim of the accident was Jose Sandoval Opazo, 66, an electrician who was working on the elevator.
Last year a 20-year-old passenger died on the Carnival Ecstasy after falling from the mast while watching the sunrise. A fire on the ship in 1998 injured eight passengers and 14 crew members.
