Mexico: Veracruz Police Repress Retirees’ Protest

Just before Christmas, Veracruz state police used baton shields and shock sticks to disperse retirees demanding government pension payments. They charge that the state has failed to pay their November and December pensions, Christmas bonus, and a backdated 3.4% raise from January to October. Six people were injured in the attacks, and the National Human Rights Commission has said that it will investigate the evacuation. teleSUR
