FREMONT, CALIFORNIA — An Indian-American woman who was questioned by police for inquiring about gun ammunition at a store in California says she felt she was singled out by authorities because of how she looked.

NBC News in the Bay Area reported that Sim Sangha tried to buy eight boxes of AR-15 ammunition at a Dick's Sporting Goods store in Fremont last week, which raised a store employee's suspicion.

With the San Bernardino shootings still fresh in everyone's memory, the employee likely thought Sangha was a Muslim with nefarious plans.

Though Sangha ended up buying only a training mask, the employee alerted police regarding her inquiry about the ammo.

Officers who showed up at her house two days later to question her found out she was in fact not Muslim, but Sikh. She also happens to be a firearms instructor who was preparing to join the Los Angeles Police Department.

Sangha says she would have shown the store proof of her certification to clear everything up, but they never asked for it.
