Study: No Connection Between Happiness and Longevity

A recent study of women in the U.K. has found that those who are happy have a similar rate of mortality as those who are unhappy, though bad health can lead to feelings of poor well-being.

There is a common belief that happiness can result in better health and a longer life, but there may be no such link after all.

In fact, researchers of a recently published study have concluded, “Happiness and related measures of well-being do not appear to have any direct effect on mortality.”

This determination was made after assessing the data of around 720,000 participants from the U.K.’s Million Women Study, which tracked participants aged 50 to 69.
