Mexico's semi-official National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) released a report on Wednesday charging federal police with at least one extrajudicial killing, the deaths of five unarmed protesters, 21 injuries, and 30 arbitrary arrests in dispersing a January protest by community self-defense groups in Apatzingan, Michoacan. Officials claimed the deaths can be attributed to friendly fire. The CNDH called for investigating the officers involved for possible criminal charges and compensating the victims.
