The designation of November 25 as the date of the International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence is based on the commemoration of the1960 murder of Minerva, María Teresa and Patria Mirabal, who were active in the resistance against the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic.
