Brazil: BHP and Vale Must Pay Preliminary Fine for Mining Disaster

Brazilian authorities have announced a preliminary fine of US$66 million to be paid by the companies responsible for the mining disaster in Minas Gerais. The announcement comes the day after both mining companies responsible for the disaster, Vale and BHP, sent executives and engineers to visit the site and announced a fund to help the people of the affected area.
