Colombia: Santos Apologizes for Palace of Justice Siege Deaths

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos offered a public apology for the 98 deaths that resulted from the 1985 military assault on the Palace of Justice. On November 6, 1985, the M-19 leftist guerrilla group seized the building and in response, then president Belisario Betancur ordered the army to storm the premises. In 2014 the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared the Colombian government guilty of forced disappearances, torture, and summary executions in relation to the incident. teleSUR
