This is a review of the 1 3/4" figures based on GI Joe and Cobra characters, called the Micro Figure Collection. There were 20 different ones made and distributed in a variety of ways starting in late-1988. They were first released as a random pack-in premium with 1988 carded figures (that were re-released for early 1989) and the first wave of 1989 carded figures. The accompanying checklist poster was strictly a mail-away promotion. Curiously, although the included ad showed figures in their final form, the poster displayed prototype paint apps. The figures were then made available through mail-order as a full set of 20 (complete with the checklist poster) in 1990 - 1992 and in 1996 for the 3rd Annual GI Joe Convention (held in Arlington, Virginia). In 1992, Tonka used the Duke mold for it's die-cast desert vehicle "Action Set". The figure was unpainted tan plastic, not PVC. Finally, in 1993, four figures were randomly offered as a giveaway in Wal-Mart's Kids Meals and paired with micro-vehicles. Grunt came with the MOBAT, Roadblock with the AWE Striker, Wet-Suit with the Warthog & Bazooka with the Persuader. The figures were never released in Europe, instead, the micro-vehicles took their place on carded figures. The eight micro-vehicles are not compatible with the figures and were available only as a mail-away premium in North America.
