Inside the Americas – Colombian Peace Process Is One of a Kind

Since 2012 the Colombian government and FARC guerrillas have held peace talks to end five decades of an armed conflict. Both sides have agreed to place the victims at the center of a historic peace process and have agreed to create a Tribunal in which either side may present accusations. Those who refuse to accept their responsibility for crimes will face 20 year sentences, while those who accept their responsibility will receive sentences of from five to eight years, which may be worked off in community service. Some jurists believe the final peace agreement may serve as a model for ending other conflicts. teleSUR
