Scientists Sequence The Genome Of Pineapple

The pineapple genome has been sequenced and is providing key insights into photosynthesis and drought tolerance, researchers say.

Scientists have sequenced the genome of the pineapple. 
Publishing in the journal Nature Genetics, researchers say their findings offer key insight into pineapples' drought tolerance as they are water-heavy yet can thrive in water-poor environments. 
Pineapples utilize a form of photosynthesis unusual to most crop plants called crassulacean acid metabolism or CAM. Crop plants typically use what's called C3 photosynthesis. 
Ray Ming, who led the sequencing effort, explained the significance,
