All Souls Day, celebrated by indigenous people in Bolivia for thousands of years before the Spaniards arrived, is a time of receiving the souls of those who have died. It is associated with All Saints Day, which began with the arrival of Catholicism. A special sweet bread, tantawawa, baked in the shape of a baby, is enjoyed at the celebrations. It comes in all shapes and sizes, including the largest of its kind in the world, measuring 2.5 meters long. Smaller pieces are exchanged between family members and friends and become part of the offerings to the dead made every November 2. Dimitri O’Donnell reports from La Paz for teleSUR.
