A working heart made of foam might sound like science fiction—but one was recently developed by scientists in New York.
Researchers at Cornell University say they've created a ‘stretchable material’ that might be ideal for use in prosthetics and artificial organs.
The compound is referred to as "elastomer foam" and is distinguished by its ability to be formed via mold—and the pores contained therein. Those pores allow the pumping of liquids through the material.
The foam itself is initially a liquid—and said to be capable of stretching 300 percent larger than its original size.
