Bolivia: Aymara Language Translated for Facebook

An ambitious project to translate Bolivia’s native language Aymara for Facebook is almost finished. At the present time, the 1.3 million people who speak Aymara are limited if they want to have a chat on Facebook because it is not classified it as a full language. A group of unpaid volunteers started the translations back in 2012 with the aim of getting the language they love designated as a formal language. By the end of this year, they will have translated 27,000 words from Spanish to Aymara, which will lead to Facebook granting it official status. Dmitri O Donnell reports from Bolivia for teleSUR
