The special that most fans cite as their gateway to *NSYNC and launched the group’s meteoric rise to fame in the US. Filmed on May 23, 1998 and originally aired on the Disney Channel on July 18 that same year, the group proved to be an overnight success. Almost immediately following the airing of the special, their self-titled album was certified platinum (1 million units sold) and it shot up to #9 on the Billboard charts, where it would steadily rise for several months, ultimately peaking at #2.
