The ABS computer occasionally tests the accumulator when the engine is started. It does this by running the pump to pressurize the accumulator to 3,100 PSI. It then opens a valve on the modulator to allow the pressure to slowly bleed off. If the accumulator is good it should stay above a certain pressure for a certain amount of time.

If the pressure drops too fast. The ABS computer disables the ABS system, turns the ABS light on, and stores a 1-8 code.
