Earth Hour KL 2009 @ CapSquare

Thousands of Malaysians gathered at CapSquare, Kuala Lumpur on the 28th of March 2009, in support of the worldwide Earth Hour event.

At 8.30pm local time, several of Kuala Lumpur landmarks shut off its lights for 60 minutes, to draw attention to climate change. This is the first time Malaysia show support to Earth Hour, and participation has grown tremendously, from 400 cities in 2008 to some 4,000 worldwide this year.

In the run up of the Earth Hour event, many celebrities pledges support of the campaign in TV and print advertisements. But has it become just another publicity stunt and will be forgotten months after the event?

Malaysians turning off the lights on Saturday night is all good and impressive, but will we continue dedicating ourselves dealing with the climate change issues when we turn the lights back on?
