The Union of South American Nations celebrated the 200th anniversary of Simon Bolivar's "Jamaica Letter" at its 1st History Congress held yesterday in Quito. In the historic document, one of the most important in the region and found last November in Ecuador, the "liberator of the Americas" called on the region's inhabitants to unite and rise up against Spanish colonial rule. Participants in the congress stressed the continued relevance of Bolivar's ideas on unity and integration for Latin America. Liz Scherffius reports from Quito. teleSUR
