The UN confirmed the destruction of the Temple of Bel in Palmyra, Syria via satellite imagery.
Satellite imagery has confirmed the destruction of Palmyra's Temple of Bel at the hands of the Islamic State.
The UN released the images yesterday after prior reports seemed to suggest the temple in the ancient Syrian city might have escaped the militants’ furor.
Any such hopes were severely misplaced.
The main building was completely razed to the ground and most adjacent columns were brought down as well.
