Protoje performed for the first time at the festival in 2013 and is one of the most talented artists in Jamaica right now. His real name is Oje Ken Ollivierre, born 1981 he is the son of the Jamaican singer Lorna Bennett, known for her 1972 hit reggae cover of Dusty Springfield’s “Breakfast in Bed”. Another important relation is his cousin Donovan Bennett, the famous Jamaican producer and owner of the Don Corleon label with whom he has collaborated since 2010 and who produced his first work “The 7th Year Itch”, released in 2011.
The intriguing style of Protoje, with elements of genres ranging from classical roots to contemporary urban music and his rich vocal tones, reached their maturity in “The 8 Year Affair” (2013).
The phenomenal “Who Knows”, a collaboration with his friend Chronixx and the newest great single “Stylin” are two tasters of his new CD “Ancient Future”. For his highly anticipated new album, Protoje has collaborated with Philip “Winta” James, one of the most exciting new producers of Jamaican scene.
