Drop in Basic Grain Production Affects Honduras' Poor
Honduras' production of rice, corn, and beans, staples of the local diet, is down, driving up consumer prices. The drop in output, 50% in the case of beans, can be attributed to lack of government support for agriculture and the drought affecting the region. It is the poorest sectors of society that suffer as a result of the higher prices, with the cost of beans expected to double. Gerardo Torres reports from Tegucigalpa. teleSUR
