Poor and deprived of BR1M

Temuan Dewi bin Malam, 52 of Pulau Kempas, Mukim Tanjung 12, Kuala Langat is a divorcee with four children of 16, 17, 25 and 27 years of age. The two eldest are working as a cleaner and security guard while the two younger ones are of schooling age but are not in school. He can't afford to send them to school. One has a congenital heart condition.

As a person who owns little, working odd-jobs in the village he applied for the government's Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia . But his application was rejected. The reason given by the Ministry of Finance is that as a person who earns RM3,000 a month, he isn't qualified.

Dewi is angry. How did they come to have such a record in their ministry database when he has no regular job and he survives with handouts from his siblings?
