Renault’s bet for the entry level crossover segment, the Kwid, was spied testing without any sort of camouflage the other day by YouTube user Lokesh Kumar. The Kwid is based on the CMF-A architecture and measures at 3.68 meters in length and 1.58 meters in width. The car is powered by 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine that produces a peak power of 57bhp. Well it’s not much, but it does beat Hyundai Eon’s 55bhp output. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, which later can be upgraded to Automatic Manual Transmission by the company.
We don’t yet know the fate of the Kwid, but given the competition it is up against, it does have mountain to climb to have some sort of an impact in this segment. Beating the Maruti Alto 800 in its home turf won’t be easy. Let’s hope Renault will offer something that would raise expectations of the customers.
