Dust Clouds Hang Over The Surface Of Earth’s Moon

A research team has recently published a paper describing their discovery of a ‘permanent, asymmetric dust cloud around the Moon’ which has been attributed to particles being launched into the air after the surface is hit with remnants of comets.

The surface of Earth’s moon has a perpetual plume of dust suspended over it, according to a new study.

The clouds are the result of debris from comets hitting the surface at a rate of about 12 miles a second, causing moondust to launch upwards.

Their density becomes thicker during yearly meteor showers, with an especially strong reaction to the Geminids which is one such event that happens each December.
