Crowded Basantapur Durbar Square - Kathmandu, Nepal

Local busy in their everyday life on Basantapur Durbar Square in Kathmandu . The city is full with sculptures, pagodas, stupas and palace buildings. Basantapur Durbar Square is one of several must-visit places in Kathmandu. Durbar Square is a generic term for plazas and old royal palaces. People are seen offering prayer at the 'Kala Bhairava'. And street vendors are selling different items, bikes are lined up at the corner of the street. Local men are carrying heavy loads and passing by. Nepali rickshaws are riding through and two old women are praying at the Kala Bhairava temple. One woman is wearing a traditional nose ring and a plane is seen skying high in the sky.

Kathmandu Durbar Square in front of the old royal palace of the former Kathmandu Kingdom is one of three Durbar (royal palace) Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Several buildings in the Square collapsed due to a major earthquake on 25 April 2015, Durbar Square was surrounded with spectacular architecture and vividly showcases the skills of the Newar artists and craftsmen over several centuries. The Royal Palace was originally at Dattaraya square and was later moved to the Durbar square.
