30 years of Schengen: A European success story?

Thirty years ago, the Schengen agreement was ratified by European leaders, paving the way for the disappearance of internal border controls in the most of the EU. Europeans make over 1.2 billion journeys within the Schengen area every year. But is it really a success story? As Europe faces an increased terrorist threat and illegal immigration, is Schengen part of the solution or part of the problem?
