Fake police officers arrested for robbing tourists on Italian highways

Police arrested five Iranian thieves dressed like police officers on Thursday who had been robbing tourists on highways in northern Italy.
According to reports in Italian media, the suspects would show fake police badges to tourists entering rest stops. They would ask for car keys and pretend to inspect the cars. The suspects would also ask to see the tourists' money and then tell tourists that they needed to verify whether the money was counterfeit, after which they would walk away.
Police caught the suspects while they were allegedly attempting one of their robberies at a highway rest stop near Rovato. After seeing the police, the suspects attempted to flee in a car, striking a police officer and slightly injuring him.
The suspects made it through a Rovato highway toll booth before a police officer shot their car's radiator out, bringing the vehicle to a stop.
Police found more than 10,000 euros, 10,000 Swiss francs, Albanian driver's licenses, fake Spanish residence permits and four cars used by the alleged thieves during their heists.
