Tourists are trapped on a major national highway in the Kullu valley of India's Himachal Pradesh state. The snow conditions are so bad that many have simply left their vehicles to find hotel rooms. And they'll wait it out until the roads are clear.

Tourists got trapped in the hilly region of Himachal Pradesh on Friday after heavy snowfall blocked all exit points and created a massive traffic jam on the roads.

They traveled there to enjoy the winter and celebrate the New Year in the Kullu-Manali region.

However, several vehicles got stranded at Manali-Chandigarh National Highway after heavy snowfall.

[Rajiv Rathi, Tourist from Gurgaon]:
"We have been stranded here for the past two days. The snow is two feet high and we are unable to find a way out of this place."

[Sharan Kamal, Tourist from Goa]:
"We are in a big trouble here because of this snow. We have to reach Mandi now, so we are trying to get out of here as fast as possible."

Most people left their vehicles and booked rooms in hotels on the outskirts of Manali to stay at until the snow is cleared away.

Nearly 25,000 tourists arrived in Manali for New Year celebrations.
