The quarterfinals are now set and as usual it's boiling down to a battle between South America and Europe.

Team U-S-A's brave World Cup adventure finally came to an end at the hands of Belgium, despite a record-breaking performance from keeper Tim Howard.

Extra time goals from Kevin de Bruyn and Romelu Lukaku seeing the Europeans home 2-1.

While in Sao Paolo, Lionel Messi continued to star for Argentina, laying the winner on a plate for Angel di Maria as Argentina netted a dramatic late winner against Switzerland just 2 minutes before a penalty shootout, meaning all eight group winners made it to through to the final eight.

The first of the quarters will see European big guns France and Germany do battle, before the tournament's top scorers James Rodriguez and Neymar go head to head as Colombia face Brazil.

On Saturday, Belgium will need the mercurial Eden Hazard to wake up if they are to get past the Messi inspired Argentina.

While Costa Rica and Bryan Ruiz will need some tricks if they are to halt the Netherlands steamroller.

Meanwhile, in off the pitch news, FIFA has said it is looking into match-fixing allegations
after a German magazine claimed a convicted match fixer predicted that Cameroon would have a man sent off while losing 4-0 to Croatia in their Group A game on June 18.
