Honduran boy smuggled into US and held for ransom rescued in Phoenix

Two people were arrested in Phoenix for smuggling a 13-year-old Honduran boy into the United States and extorting money from his family.
U.S. citizen Frances Salas and Mexican national Jesus Milan-Rodriguez were arrested and booked into Maricopa County Jail. They are facing charges including kidnapping and marijuana possession.

The kidnap was revealed when the mother of the boy, who lives in Florida, contacted immigration authorities in Florida on Friday saying that her son has been smuggled across the U.S. border and was being held at an unknown location in Phoenix, Arizona.

She also said the smugglers were demanding extra money to release the boy, according to Reuters.

Homeland security agents located the boy, who was being held in an apartment complex near Interstate 17 and Bethany Home road, late Friday night, azfamily reported.

Agents and police officers went to the apartment and arrested the two kidnappers.The boy was not injured and is now in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Refugee Resettlement.

Officers reportedly also found a pound of marijuana inside the apartment.
