Possible ISIS shooting: American doctor Debra Lobo shot by gunmen claiming IS affiliation

A medical school administrator in Pakistan was critically injured by two gunmen who claiming affiliation with the Islamic State shot at her from a motorcycle on Thursday.

Debra Lobo, vice principal of Karachi’s Jinnah Medical and Dental College, had left the campus in the afternoon and was en route to pick up her husband and daughters when the two gunmen opened fire, striking her twice. One bullet entered her right cheek and passed out out of the left. The second bullet became lodged in her right arm.

The attackers then left flyers in English and Urdu which claim they are members of the ‘Lions of Daulah al-Islamiyyah’. Daulah al-Islamiyyah is an abbreviation for the Arabic name of the Islamic State.

The message states they attacked Lobo to avenge the deaths of five militants killed in a paramilitary raid in the city’s Kiamari area last week.

Pakistani authorities said it was unclear whether the gunmen’s claims are true as the flyers are crude. Yet the attack has given rise to fears IS has begun to expand into Pakistan.
