Taong 2011 pa minomonitor ang sinasabing recruiter ni Mary Jane Veloso na si Maria Kristina Sergio bilang drug courier, ayon mismo sa special task force na nag-iimbestiga sa kaso ni Mary Jane. At batay sa impormasyon ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), umaabot na sa mahigit 600 ang bilang ng mga Pinoy drug couriers sa buong mundo.
