Mexican Political System Faces Growing Public Distrust
With Mexico immersed in violence, human rights, and corruption scandals, voters increasingly distrust the country's political system and parties and are skeptical in relation to the upcoming June 7 mid-term elections. Such sentiment is expected to translate into unprecedentedly high abstention rates. To channel such popular discontent, some social activists are involved in a campaign to remove President Enrique Peña Nieto from office and others are calling for a boycott of the upcoming elections.
